The “Trupial Classic” competition took place on Friday & Saturday, July 11/12, at Sentro Deportivo Korsou (SDK) in Curacao.
This event is most likely the largest of the season, bringing athletes from teams all over the Caribbean. This year, there were teams from Aruba, Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Puerto Rico, and of course, Curacao. Truly an international event right here on home soil!
The Cheetah team was represented by the following athletes:
The format of the Trupial Classic is slightly different than previous events – each athlete can choose up to 3 events in which to participate; and there are no Combined Events medals for groups, only awards per event.
Also, the meet offered several relay events, including 4x100m and the unconventional “Swedish” relay where athletes run respective legs in 400m, 300m, 200m & 100m. The relays added a perfect final spectacle to the meet, and the Cheetah teams’ involvement made it that much more exciting!
The team achieved 8 medals across all events, and 8 Personal Bests (PBs).
A couple of major relay highlights:
This was a perfect season capper – loads of good performances amidst the great competition, awesome teamwork in the relays, and a real sense of excitement with teams from all over the Caribbean present.
Amazing 2025 season, Cheetahs. Let’s rest up for a week or 2, then back to work for 2026!
